The collection contains papers of George Peddy Cuttino from 1930-1990. The genealogical materials in Series 1 consist of materials collected by Dr. Cuttino and by his grandfather, David Smith Cuttino, Sr. (1842-1925) concerning the "Cothonneau" family in France, as French Hugenot refugees to America, and as citizens of the state of South Carolina; as well as related branches of the family. Dr. Gutting is the author of Saddle Bags and Spinning Wheel, the collected tatters of his grandparents George W. Peddy and Kate Featherston Peddy, and HISTORY OF THE CUTTINO FAMILY. The personal papers in Series 2 consist of records having to do with some aspects of his personal life, but primarily relate to his career as a scholar and teacher of medieval history.

George Peddy Cuttino, educator and historian, was born 9 March 1914, in Newnan, Georgia, and died 4 October 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Swarthmore College (1935), University of Iowa (1936), Oxford University (1938) and did post-doctoral study at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London (1938-1939).
